Kürt Edebiyatı’ndan okuduÄŸum ilk eser oldu “Dımdım Kalesi”… Erebê Åžemo tarafından kaleme alınan roman, 17. yy baÅŸlarında Osmanlılar ile Safevilerin arasında kalan Kürt halkının (daha doÄŸrusu belli bir aÅŸiretin) özgürlük mücadelesini anlatıyor.

Bir efsane üzerine kurgulanan hikaye, Xano’nun önderliÄŸini yaptığı Beroderan aÅŸiretinin yaÅŸam tarzını anlatıyor aynı zamanda. Sünni Müslüman olan halkı; Åžii Safevi Devleti sürekli bozguna uÄŸratmaya ve dinlerini deÄŸiÅŸtirmeye zorluyor. Kitabın çeviri olduÄŸu çok belli; buram buram da milliyetçilik kokuyor. Bana “Åžu Çılgın Türkler”in 4 yüzyıl önceki Kürt versiyonu gibi geldi.

Dımdım Castle (which is located on the west of lake Urmia) is the first novel I read from the Kurdish Literature. The author of the book is Erebê Åžemo who is also the owner of the first Kurdish novel ever written. Not forget to mention that he also assisted  in developing a Latin alphabet for the Kurdish language. The legend in the book is about a Kurdish tribe that tries to survive between the attacks of Ottoman Empire and Safavid  Dynasty in the beginning of the 17. century. Especially the Safavid Dynasty is very eager to annex the land of the Kurds and also convert the Sunni Kurds to Shia, which indeed is not welcomed by the tribe. I could easily understand that the book was translated; it is not nice feeling that while reading. Plus, the translator used the current names of the cities mentioned in the book which used to be called way different. I found the book pretty nationalistic and even thought it could be the Kurdish version of “Åžu Çılgın Türkler” ( Those Crazy Turks) with 400 years of difference :)

” Thank God that you are Kurdish lads. In Ottoman Empire, some are so scared to even approach a horse and did not know how to saddle them. It took half of my life until I get to train them” p:38
