Daron Acemoglu / Daron AcemoÄŸlu

I am in my second trimester and we have been mentioning Daron Acemoğlu a lot.  Despite all my efforts to get my classmates pronounce his name correctly, apparently I am not successful. Then I realized also the professors pronounce his name WRONG. They keep on saying -asemoglou- or something like that. This really makes me wonder if they ever heard his name spoken. The C sound is different in Turkish:

About Ğ, it just lengthens the preceding vowel. So we can write :  Adgem-oolou.

AcemoÄŸlu’nun “The Colonial Origins of Comparative Development” makalesi 2 dönemdir sıkça kullandığımız, adını geçirdiÄŸimiz bir makale.  Kendisini bundan dolayı çok anıyoruz ve ben her ismi geçtiÄŸinde gurur duyuyorum. Maalesef akademik dünyada çok sık Türkçe bir soyad duyamıyoruz. Ama her seferinde yanlış telaffuzunu duyduÄŸumda dayanamıyorum. Asemoglu Asemoglu, yahu doÄŸru söyleyin ÅŸu ismi!

Türkçe’deki  C harfini Arapça’daki Cim(Jim)  olarak tanımlayabiliriz. Ama C harfi, diÄŸer latin alfabesi kullanan dillerde  K ve S harfi olarak kullanıyor.
