Herkes onu Filistin için söylediği şarkısıyla tanıdı Türkiye’de. İsyankar duruşu ve politik tavrıyla çizgilerini keskin bir şekilde belirtiyor Emel….
Emelimiz tekrar geldi…Geçen sene 16 Mayıs’ta Babylon’da performansını izleyip büyülenmiştim. Hem sesi, hem tarzı hem de canlı performansıyla gerçekten içimde dalgalandırmalar oluşturmuştu Emel… Politik duruşu ve şarkı sözleri onu “Protest” diyebileceğimiz biz müzik kategorisine sokuyor. Şarkılarında yeri gelince ağıdı yeri gelince isyanı iliklerinize kadar hissettiren bir sesi var.
Bu konserinde de açılışı Ahmedo ile yaptı. O da ne? Emel’de bir değişiklik var; biraz daha dikkatli bakınca fark ediyorum. Emel 5 aylık hamile :) Konserden sonra öğreniyoruz ki kız bekliyormuş. Üzerinde yere kadar uzanan etnik diyebileceğim bir elbise var. Saks mavisi ayakkabıları var ( kuliste fotoğraf çekilirken mavi göz kalemimi görünce hemen ayakkabılarının rengini gösterdi). Sahnede Emel ile birlikte DJ/Klavye, Davul/Cajon/Def/Muhtelif perküsyon aletleri ve Elektro Keman vardı. Emel’in yakaladığı farklı tınıyı çok beğeniyorum. Elektronik müzikle harmanladığı, perküsyonla ara ara Doğu tadını hissettirdiği, vokal tekrarları kullanarak zenginleştirdiği bir tarzı var.
Bize diğer bir sürprizi Gelevera Deresi türküsünü seslendirmesi oldu. Kendisi röportajlarında Kazım Koyuncu’dan çok etkilendiğini hep söylüyor. Bis yaparken Naci en Palestina’yı da es geçmedi tabii. Heyecanla bu şarkıyı bekleyen bir kitle varken :) Konseri bitirirken ise mesaj verdi: Tunus’ta YouTube kapatıldıktan 1,5 sene sonra Tunus Devrimi/ Yasemin Devrimi gerçekleşti dedi ve sahneden indi:)
Konser çıkışı kulise gidiyoruz. 30 kişi geç geldiğinden konsere girememiş; bari tanışalım diye beklemişler. Emel de bu duruma çok üzüldü ve onlara mini bir konser vermeye karar verdi. Hemen oracıkta grubunu çağırdı, piyano dışarı çıkartıldı. Ahmedosuyla, Dhalem’iyle 2-3 şarkı söyleyiverdi bize. Epey sevindik tabii. Mikrofonsuz çıplak sesi o kadar güçlü ve etkileyici ki, hemen yanı başınızda söylediğinde hayranlığınızı gizleyemiyorsunuz.
We welcomed Emel again in Istanbul after nearly a year. I was fascinated by her live performance last yer on 16th May in Babylon. Both her voice and her style excited me as a world music lover. So I did not miss the chance to see her again. With her lyrics and political standing we can categorize her music as “Protest”. You can feel both rebellion and mourning deep to the bone.
She began the concert with Ahmedo as usual :). Big applause! Then I sense something different on her, I look more carefully and it makes me smile. Emel is 5 months pregnant! After the concert we find out that she is expecting a girl. She wears a long dress with some ethnical pattern and saxe blue shoes. ( My eye liners were that colour too, she showed me her same coloured shoes after the concert). Along with Emel, there was a DJ/Keyboard-ist, Drums/Cajon/Tambourine-ist and an Electro Violinist on stage. I admire the authentic timbre that the band has. Blended with the electronic music, Middle East tunes with percussions and vocal-repetitions enrich her style even more.
Another surprise of her was siniging Gelevera Deresi folk song which became popular with the cover of deceased Kazım Koyuncu. Emel always mentiones how she is touched by his music in her interviews. In her encore, she sang Naci en Palestina as demanded by the audience. When closing the concert she gave a message: In Tunisia YouTube was blocked just 1.5 year before the revolution and left the stage.
We went to the back-stage after the concert. 30 people were not allowed to enter the concert because of their timing so they have waited to see her at the back stage. Emel was really sad about the situation so she gave us a mini-concert. The piano was taken out, so began the music with our hand claps. Everybody got so cheered up! Without a mic rophone, her bare voice is so powerful and enchanting…We were very lucky to witness herafter-concert performance
