I am in my second trimester and we have been mentioning Daron Acemoğlu a lot. Despite all my efforts to get my classmates pronounce his name correctly, apparently I am not successful. Then I realized also the professors pronounce his name WRONG. They keep on saying -asemoglou- or something like that. This really makes me wonder if they ever heard his name spoken. The C sound is different in Turkish:

About Ğ, it just lengthens the preceding vowel. So we can write : Adgem-oolou.
Acemoğlu’nun “The Colonial Origins of Comparative Development” makalesi 2 dönemdir sıkça kullandığımız, adını geçirdiğimiz bir makale. Kendisini bundan dolayı çok anıyoruz ve ben her ismi geçtiğinde gurur duyuyorum. Maalesef akademik dünyada çok sık Türkçe bir soyad duyamıyoruz. Ama her seferinde yanlış telaffuzunu duyduğumda dayanamıyorum. Asemoglu Asemoglu, yahu doğru söyleyin şu ismi!Türkçe’deki C harfini Arapça’daki Cim(Jim) olarak tanımlayabiliriz. Ama C harfi, diğer latin alfabesi kullanan dillerde K ve S harfi olarak kullanıyor.
