On Saturday we went to the Contemporary Art Exhibition in Lütfi Kırdar. It was my first time because I missed the previous ones as it just lasts for a few days. I liked it a lot… There were many art galleries from all over the world from South Korea to Iran…Plus it was very crowded there, we even came across to Cem Yılmaz.
I was very touched by some paintings with the slogan ‘ Choose Your Country’ and they belong to a gallery from Tehran/Iran, so I associated in my mind…Azam Ali / Niyaz band… They also had a concert last week in Babylon, I saw them live last year in Ghettoist. During the performance , Azam Ali was telling some stories… And she said ‘ In Turkey, we feel closest to home, we feel at home and it is very important for us because we CANNOT go home…we are prohibited…we cannot do what we do now in the borders of Iran so we had to leave and now we cannot go back…’ The couple’s child: Iman will probably hardly see the home country… and I felt so sorry at that moment and this Choose Your Country paintings made me think of that… If you are from Iran, you have to choose between staying or leaving not to come again. One leads to your freedom of expressing yourself other does not…It is a very tough decision…
